Fancy Things Friday

January 19, 2018

This Fancy Things Friday is all about embracing the cooler temperatures with a little bit of color. In oher words it’s sweater weather with a burst of flair:

1. I love a good play on words, so this LITerature Sweater made my heart smile. I’ve been doing some more writing these days, and I’ve been making my way through some fantastic audiobooks on my commute to and from work, so I guess you could say that I, too, put the “lit” in “literature.” (cottonbureau.com)

2. With its pretty pearls and radiant ruffles, this Pearl Beading Tiered Ruffle Sleeve Jumper will definitely help you step your sweater game up. This gem also comes in Pink, Black, Green, Burgundy and White, but will turn heads in whichever hue you choose. (shein.com)

3. And speaking of making a statement, this grand Gold Feather Statement Necklace is giving me warrior princess meets buttoned-up beauty. Also, had no clue that World Market had such fanciful necklaces. Mind blown! (worldmarket.com)

4. Who says denim can only come in shades of blue? I, for one, subscribe to Zara’s belief in color. This dazzling Coloured Denim Jacket in yellow will definitely keep the winter blues away. The distressing and rips throughout add an element of badassery and boldness. And guess who’s here for it! (zara.com)

5. I wore my black-and-white oxfords so much that they’re in pretty bad shape, which is a shame because I really loved them. They went with everything! Thankfully, these sprightly Derby Tweed/Black Shoes are a(rollienation.com)

New year, new looks! See some hot commodities for the winter chill in this week’s edition of Fancy Things Friday:

1. How’s this for a statement necklace?! Leave it to Kate Spade to create the perfect blend of style and quirk in a neck piece. This Kiss and Make Up Wink Necklace surely won’t remain in stock for long. It’s on sale, so make haste! (katespade.com)

2. Look and feel regal AF with these luxurious SHINE Velvet Ballet Pumps. The gold embellishment is simply exquisite. Wear these puppies around the house with your silkiest robe, or strut your stuff on the town. Mind the gaps and watch out for puddles. These flats are dry clean only. (topshop.com)

3. This cozy FRS Wool Midi Coat With Tie Belt is just what the doctor ordered to brave the elements this winter. Wrap yourself up tight with the tie belt and keep those fingers toasty in those deep pockets. (frontrowshop.com)

4. Yo! Zara must have been reading my mind when it designed this darling Reversible Anorak Jacket. It has all that a girl could ask for in a jacket and more. You get double the fashion for the price of one coat. Switch between navy blue and mustard yellow, and take or leave the fur hood (I personally would take it). And let’s not forget about the drawstring waist, which you can cinch to give the piece some shape. Show off that hourglass, honey! Seriously, a game changer! (zara.com)

5. Simplicity is key, and this Cotton & Wool Sweater pulls it off with ease. You can never go wrong with black and white. Layer this piece to give it some personality. Or march to the beat of your own drum and wear it as is. Either way, you’ll be stunning. (stories.com)

Get into an all-new batch of must-have goods and wares in this week’s edition of Fancy Things Friday:

1. Cross my heart, hope to buy! Feast your eyes on this stately Oval Crossbody Bag from Zara. I’m digging the two-toned color palette. Go rogue and remove the shoulder strap — it’s equally fashionable. (zara.com)

2. Circle up, ladies! Keep those UV rays at bay in style. These Round Sunglasses have a muted, light-beige tortoise-esque shell frame and a purple-ish tint. I suspect that these shades will work nicely well into fall. (hm.com)

3. Pixie Market presents femininity at its finest with this darling Pink Off the Shoulder Shirt. I could go a number of ways with this one, but I’m torn between stepping out with it in a pair of slim cigarette plants or a svelt pencil skirt. (pixiemarket.com)

4. Splurge a little on this dazzling Short Sleeve Wrap Dress by COS. The speckled print gives off a quintessentially California girl vibe, and the embossed, textured fabric keeps things interesting. Go against the grain and wear this piece open like a jacket, or buttoned and layered with a collared shirt — oooooh! or a turtleneck. (cosstores.com)

5. OK, ladies, now let’s peep Refomation. No, seriously. You’re gonna fall head over heels for this delicate Peggy Top in Blush. The embroidery floral detail pops against the lightweight silk charmeuse fabric. It’s the perfect blouse for the girl’s girl. (thereformation.com)

Get into an all-new batch of must-have goods and wares in this week’s edition of Fancy Things Friday:

1. Give these Round Cut Sandals a twirl and you’re guaranteed to be hooked. ‘Round and ’round you’ll go to destinations unknown in this fancy-free footwear. I love how the circles come together to create a faux bow look. You know those are my fave. (stories.com)

2. Add a little (or a lotta) razzle-dazzle to your look with this glitzy Anapple Clutch. This beaded miniaudiere bag is demure in stature but ornate and ostentatious in its extensive beading, jewels and chains. I’d use this clutch to accentuate a little black dress or deep V-neck jumpsuit. (aldoshoes.com)

3. How sweet is this dainty Dress With Frilled Bib Front? Perfect for resort day-lounging or — dare I say — a wedding dress for a low-maintenance bride. Since subtlety is key here, throw on a simple bar necklace and your favorite stud earrings. (zara.com)

4. This Soft Tailored Blazer Dress means business. The satin shawl collar and double-breasted buttons make this piece a force to be reckoned with. But there’s room for fun when you show off those gams of yours. Pair this dress with a killer pair of heels and thank me later. (topshop.com)

5. Hot. To. Trot. That’s what you’ll be in this stunningEntrapment Dress by Rise of Dawn. I’m all over the all-over lace fabric, and the sassy sweetheart cut bodice is giving me a serious case of the swoons. Date night, here you come! (revolve.com)

Get into another batch of gotta-have-it goods and wares in this week’s Fancy Things Friday:

1. Giddy up! If these Yosabina Patch Pony Flat Ankle Boots by Eeight (E-I-E-I-Oh snap!) don’t make you gallop with delight, I don’t know what else will. Pair these kicks (more like kick in the pants, amirite?!) with an all-black ensemble to let the pony print speak for itself. (polyvore.com)

2. Don’t let go of this darling Hold Tight Clutch by Wool and the Gang. First of all, great brand name. Secondly, the detail on this fun little number is stunning. Thirdly, this is the perfect sized bag to hold all the essentials: cell phone, lipstick, keys, etc. Oh, and it’s available in a range of shades. (woolandthegang.com)

3. “Bundled up” doesn’t have to mean “bummed up.” Leave it to this Scratchy Mono Duster Jacket to serve up some serious style while also keeping you warm. The black-and-white pattern just screams for a pop of color, so take heed, ladies. (missselfridge.com)

4. Now that I think of it, this Thick Shaker Knit Sweater would pair nicely with that duster jacket. Or, hey, go without. This red number has enough spunk to rock as a standalone anchor to an outfit. The ribbed detail sends the message that it’s about to get real cozy up in here (up in here). (joefresh.com)

5. This Mini Herringbone Dress is both elegant and sassy. Show them legs! And good call on layering, Zara! The collared shirt really brings the look home. (zara.com)

1. Nate Dogg: Nobody does it better than Nate Dogg! Since he’s passed there’s been a major void left in music. Pay homage to the big homie who brought us hits like “Regulate,” “Never Leave Me Alone” and “I Got Love” by rocking this Nate Dogg Pin by Nowen. “Na, na, na, na, na, na!” (nowen.bigcartel.com)

2. Fall all the way into The Gap’s Mini Crossbody Bag. A little tassel never hurt no one! I’m feeling this Modern Red color, but this hot little number comes in five other shades. (gap.com)

3. Meet me in the dojo or out on the streets rocking this Harmon Jacket from Golden by TNA. Whether you’re in the mood to bring out your inner Karate Kid or want to show your fiercer side, this edgy kimono-style coat should do the trick. And the belt pulls it all together. (aritzia.com)

4. I see you bringing so much sass to fall fashion, Topshop! This Premium Fit and Flare Sweater Dress is not your mother’s sweater dress. The pattern! The silhouette! I live! Yet another top contender for a dazzling New Year’s Eve look. (topshop.com)

5. Nothing like the perfect pair of skinnies to accentuate all your curves and make you feel like a woman. These Skinny Jeans from Zara fit snugly into that territory and takes things a step further with the zipper pocket accents. I’m here for the pairing with the mustard yellow coat, too! (zara.com)

1. Show them you mean business with these elegant and ornate Jacquard Cropped Trousers from Zara. These culottes already command a lot of attention, so my plan of attack would be to pair them with a sleek blazer and pointy heel. (zara.com)

2. You can’t see the details up close, but there are dozens of tiny cacti combining their collective forces into one quaint piece. This Cactus Print Waisted Dress is perf for that flora aficionado in your life, by the way. (stories.com)

3. Why, hello! These Matisse Quake Cow Hair Oxfords are rather ostentatious. And that’s why I’m a huge fan! These shoes pack a punch and are just the right amount of quirky to liven up a plain outfit. (revolveclothing.com)

4. So much fun and surprise in such a little package. Looking straight on, this Strap Linen Top from Mango is your run-of-the-mill cropped tank. But, oh no. Pow! The back is striking with its amazing cutout and braided straps. (mango.com)

5. I appreciate the subtle sassiness found in this Cut-Out Buckle Playsuit from Topshop. Again, the cutouts are a game-changer that elevate this look to the moon and back. I see what you did here, Topshop, and I’d like lots more of it, thank you! (topshop.com)

1. Latigo takes a walk on the adventurous side with these Milly Pokadot Sandals. First off, way to get bold with the spelling of “polka dots,” and secondly, I cannot get enough of the black dots set on the backdrop of a natural hue. (revolveclothing.com)

2. How darling is this Short Sleeve Pleated Dress by StyleNanda? It’s demure enough for Sunday morning at church, but can easily go good-girl-turned-bad (a la Rihanna) when paired with a bright pop of color, be it in pump or purse form. (en.stylenanda.com)

3. Get down to business with this Zipped Poplin Jumpsuit by Zara. It’s a simple, straightforward look. But, hey, sometimes you just have to go for softspoken strength. (zara.com)

4. Take it back to the old school, ’cause I’m a (not-so) old fool who’s so cool. “Whoomp There it Is” is right. These retro Mr. Throwback X Originals Black Joggers truly do like up to their name, harkening back to the ’90s. I could totally see Ol’ Marty Mar lounging in these numbers. (mrthrowback.com)

5. I must have been in some type of preppy mood, ’cause the pleats have made an appearance yet again with this show-stopping Kimchi Blue Pleated Skirt Dress. In this case, the pleats are a nice complement to the edgy cutout back. Hey, now that I think of it, this dress is a classic case of “business in the front, party in the back.” I’ll call it a mullet dress. (urbanoutfitters.com)

1. Tip toe through the concrete jungle with these Leopard Walking on Sunshine Sandals by Savoire-Faire. Don’t it feel good? Why, yes. Yes it does. (shopsavoirfaire.com)

2. Zara, I think I’m in love with this Dress With Bow at the Back. The secret’s out, but the cutouts are a pleasant surprise. All bows everything is what I say. (zara.com)

3. This Nasty Gal Shark Deco Bustier Top is a work of art. First of all, it has great bones. Secondly, the attention to detail is pretty sweet. The mesh is subtle but simultaneously edgy. This saucy number also comes with a matching pencil skirt, but run wild with the styling possibilities. Tutu, skinny jeans, midi skirt. All viable options. (nastygal.com)

4. Like Drake says, “I’m waaaay up, I feel blessed.” Straight up! And I feel the same way. I’ve been beyond blessed. Shout out to God for holding me down throughout the years. This darling I Am Blessed Small Dog Tag Necklace comes courtesy of Dogeared, a contemporary jewelry line with the daintiest of trinkets. Pictured here is the silver version, but I personally am a huge fan of the gold dipped style. (dogeared.com)

5. Va va va voom, y’all! Take a look at this Rock the Bateau Black Off-the-Shoulder Dress . Stir it up, little darling, ’cause it’s about to be all eyes on you with this dress on. It’s also available in light blue. (lulus.com)

2. A lovely tribute to legendary African-American songstresses Lena Horne, Dorothy Dandridge, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday and Etta James, this Queens Tee from Hayes Denim Co. offers many styling possibilities. Maxi skirt? Colorful denim? Yes, please! But however you choose to style it, be sure to wear it proudly–we come from great stock! (hayesdenimco.bigcartel.com)

3. I know I can always count on Morning Lavender for simple, darling apparel. Such is the case with this gorgeous Amelia Full Blue Maxi Skirt, which reminds me of serene oceans and the fact that I’m long overdue for a tropical getaway. (morninglavender.com)

4. This Skater Dress by My Asho Market is a thing of beauty, crafted with fabric straight outta Nigeria and Ghana. With such a vibrant, unique pattern, this number would be perfect for a summer wedding or an elaborate dinner party. (nubianhueman.com)

5. Everything’s coming up roses with this super sweet Cut-Out Rose Print Dress from Topshop. Pair this stunning dress with a red lip and rosy accessories, and you’ve got a stylish take on the red, white and blue that are a hallmark of Independence Day. Yes, I’m already looking ahead to the summer holiday. Don’t sleep on the Fourth of July, folks. (topshop.com)
