roosevelt-quote-800

This Wednesday Word No. 83, courtesy of Deny Designs and spoken by former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, encourages us to dream and dream BIG. What if you dared to believe your wildest, most far-out, pie-in-the-sky dreams could come true? I was recently reminded of the Bible verse, Ephesians 3:20, which, in the Message translation, reads: “God can do anything, you know — far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us.” That gives me so much hope, so much joy, knowing that God’s plan for me includes victory. But, admittedly, I don’t always set my sights on those wild dreams. In fact, there have beens season when I haven’t dreamt at all, worn down by the stresses of life. When I did get that glimmer of hope, God showed up and showed out in a crazy way by offering me my dream job (more on that later). And even then, this experience has taught me that I’m not dreaming big enough! God is so faithful, so generous. May this Wednesday Word inspire you to get back to a place where you can dream the desires of your heart for yourself, and keep on keeping on, if you’ve always been a big-dreamer. It’s a beautiful thing!

but she had wings

“When she transformed into a butterfly, the caterpillars spoke not of her beauty, but of her weirdness. They wanted her to change back into what she always had been. But she had wings.”

This Wednesday Word No. 45, courtesy of Secret Safe Heart and written by author Dean Jackson, simply spoke to me. A lot of social media chatter as of late has been about standards of beauty, and what actually makes someone beautiful (Can a person be deemed beautiful on the inside if what they’re presenting on the outside is scantily-clad and provocative?) and whether or not a person knows they’re beautiful (You can know full well your inner beauty but choose not to flaunt or talk about your looks). So when I observed all these conversations, I was reminded of this quote by Dean Jackson. Let me start by saying that you are beautiful. Yes, you — the person reading this. To me, this quote has a couple of meanings. First, don’t let someone’s opinion alter the way you feel about yourself. If you try to adhere to someone else’s standards they’ll say you’re not good enough, and when you do conform to their criteria, they’ll say you were better before. Also, this quote reminds me that you can soar above whatever notions of inadequacy you chose to believe and realize that you’ve been great all along. Either way you interpret it, the moral of the story is: Do you. Be you. BeYOUtiful.
