Man, I could really use a vacation. That’s what’s at the heart of this Wednesday Word. With all the chaos going on, I need to get out of Dodge, like yesterday. You know, slow down, relax, clear my mind, experience a change of pace and scenery, appreciate all the things that really matter. Thankfully, I’m heading to Europe (Munich and London, to be exact) for a week real soon. So when I stumbled upon this quote by Ella Maillart, a French-speaking Swiss adventurer, travel writer and photographer, I naturally got all giddy. This Wednesday Word No. 85, found via Brainy Quote, is as good an excuse as any to break away from the routine, as Maillart said, “that dreadful routine that kills all imagination and all our capacity for enthusiasm.” There’s something about visiting a new place that excites and reinvigorates a person. I’m so looking forward to exploring Europe with new lenses, and seeing what my creativity and imagination conjures up. It’s great timing, too, as I’ll be starting a new job shortly after I return from my vacation. You know I’m gonna have to report back via one of my Travel Logs here! Auf wiedersehen, y’all!

I’m so ready to travel. Hawaii later this week, and then the world in the years ahead. It surprises me how few places I’ve actually visited, particularly Hawaii because it’s paradise and you don’t even need a passport! This Wednesday Word No. 64, courtesy of Sneaks & Stilettos, is all about making a commitment to venture out of the norm and let your curiosity lead you. When I look back over my life when I’m in my 90s, I want to chuckle and smile at all the little journeys I went on and all the things I gained that money can’t buy. No doubt, traveling enriches your life. Research shows that travel can actually keep our brains and bodies healthier as we get older. Through travel, you also realize that life is a wonderful gift. It reminds me of the saying, “Fill your life with experiences, not things. Have stories to tell, not stuff to show.” I literally cannot wait for this vacation, the beautiful sights that await in Honolulu and on the North Shore, and, most importantly, creating priceless memories with some of my favorite people in life, ever. I’m ready to take this pledge. Are you?
