Outfits of the Day-to-Night: Fashion Haul

August 9, 2019

Oh, hey. Didn’t see you there. “What have I been up to?,” you ask. I recently partnered with PrettyLittleThing to bring you a super versatile day-to-night fashion haul that ranges from casual cute to hot girl summer. Yes, I’m serving you looks that work for day and shine in the night. To start, here’s one that is undeniably meant for an evening out on the town.

“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.” 2 Corinthians 4:16

These outfits feature some of my favorite accessories (What’s not to love about bright pops of color, and who doesn’t get life from a good statement necklace?), but as you feast your eyes on these ensembles, you’ll see that one of my main accessories is missing: my AFO brace. I’ve regained strength in my foot after the MS-related flareup that I experienced in September 2017. God is good! More on that next week … But with renewed strength comes a renewed desire to stunt on ’em. Thanks to PrettyLittleThing, I have some killer outfits for you to do just that.

Get into this summer fashion haul and shop the ‘fits after the jump!

Fancy Things Friday

May 13, 2016

We get it. May grey is a very real thing. In an effort to keep your eyes on the sunshiny days that lie ahead, this Fancy Things Friday features some super-cute fun-in-the-sun essentials:

1. These Bali Slides from J.Crew are a Dusty Cypress shade that make me crave a desert romp. Think about it. Palm Springs when it’s 90 degrees out, and you’re lounging poolside with a refreshing drink in your hand. These sandals certainly fit (foot?) the bill for the quintessential summer sandal. (jcrew.com)

2. These Nude Slouch Bags are doubly debonair and functional. I see River Island is hip to my bag-within-a-bag swag, but these purses clearly work well as separates. Plus, the gold tone detailing adds a touch of sophistication. (riverisland.com)

3. Bring your A game to the workplace in this darling Great Gal in the Corner Office Top from (who else?) Modcloth, the foremost purveyor of all things cute and stylish. The pattern is interesting without going overboard, and the slight peplum makes me squeal with delight. (modcloth.com)

4. You gals know mustard is my jam! It’s perfect for every season and has a certain way of making my skin pop. That’s why I’m a huge fan of this Textured Sheath Dress. Dress it up or down. You know the routine! (forever21.com)

5. Doesn’t this boho-chic Ecote Fonda Striped Surplice Romper make you want to frolic? Well, at least that’s how it makes me feel! Whether it’s brunch or the beach, you’ll steal the spotlight in this extra sweet playsuit. (urbanoutfitters.com)

Fancy Things Friday

May 6, 2016

This Fancy Things Friday is all about black-and-white statement pieces with a pop of color:

1. When Madewell’s Tassle Time Earrings come out to play, you know it’s party time. The little bursts of fringe are nothing more than a fun adornment for your ears, but I’m here for all of its whimsy. Be sure to pull your hair up to ensure that these earrings get their due shine. (shopbop.com)

2. Stop the presses! As a matter of fact, these ASOS Publisher High Heels are bright and edgy enough to stop traffic. I can’t put my finger on it, but these open-toed heels put me in a New York state of mind. I picture Carrie Bradshaw strutting down Park Avenue in these faux suede gems hailing a cab. (asos.com)

3. Talk about deep cuts! This Inesa Polka Dot Sheer Black Chiffon and Devore Maxi Dress boasts an unabashed plunging neckline and enough razzle-dazzle to make a best-dressed list for the Met Gala, if properly accessorized. Who knew polka dots could get so sassy? (houseofcb.com)

4. You can’t tell me this Crepe Skirt Overlay Aztec Romper in White isn’t festival-worthy. It’s giving me bohemian chic in a way that makes me want to twirl (that’s where the skirt overlay comes in nicely) and sway barefoot on an open field. Who’s on board? (missguidedus.com)

5. Being bad never looked so good. Ladies, take note. This Lara High Neck Crop Top in Stripe Lace Black by Motel is the epitome of badass with a touch of class. Bonus points because I’ve never met a scalloped hemline that I didn’t like. (motelrocks.com)

Fancy Things Friday

April 8, 2016

Get into an all-new batch of spring-inspired goods and wares in this week’s Fancy Things Friday:

1. Cool it now, with this crisp, cobalt blue Mini Fringe Crossbody Bag. The tan and grey versions are fine and well, but something about the blue feels extra special. Take this bag to new heights by removing the strap and wearing it as a clutch. (freepeople.com)

2. The Esi Top is unabashedly Afrocentric and I’m all for it. The pattern provides whimsy and playfulness, while the plunging back is a pleasant surprise. The top is also available in a teal green-and-white pattern that’s extra earthy and equally charming. (kedelcouture.bigcartel.com)

3. Shine on, girl! This Glisten Black and Nude Sequin Rose Jumpsuit just demands attention. The dazzling rose pattern overlay is made up from sequins, and this playsuit is elegant, stylish and versatile. (pinkboutique.co.uk)

4. The Hanalei Collar Necklace is a lovely reminder of the season we’re in. Springtime is upon us, and it lends itself to wonderful pieces, such as this stunning statement necklace featuring ultra-realistic marbled hibiscus blossoms secured by a structured gold collar and black ribbon. There’s a tropical touch that would make this necklace perfect for styling outfits for my upcoming Hawaii trip. (baublebar.com)

5. Peekaboo! I see you. This Faye Cut Out Dress breaks the monotony of the usual little black dress. This piece keeps you on your toes with the sleek cutout. The buttons and billowy sleeves tone down the sass and make for a darling frock. (francescas.com)

1. Show them you mean business with these elegant and ornate Jacquard Cropped Trousers from Zara. These culottes already command a lot of attention, so my plan of attack would be to pair them with a sleek blazer and pointy heel. (zara.com)

2. You can’t see the details up close, but there are dozens of tiny cacti combining their collective forces into one quaint piece. This Cactus Print Waisted Dress is perf for that flora aficionado in your life, by the way. (stories.com)

3. Why, hello! These Matisse Quake Cow Hair Oxfords are rather ostentatious. And that’s why I’m a huge fan! These shoes pack a punch and are just the right amount of quirky to liven up a plain outfit. (revolveclothing.com)

4. So much fun and surprise in such a little package. Looking straight on, this Strap Linen Top from Mango is your run-of-the-mill cropped tank. But, oh no. Pow! The back is striking with its amazing cutout and braided straps. (mango.com)

5. I appreciate the subtle sassiness found in this Cut-Out Buckle Playsuit from Topshop. Again, the cutouts are a game-changer that elevate this look to the moon and back. I see what you did here, Topshop, and I’d like lots more of it, thank you! (topshop.com)

1. In the words of the lovely Ms. Lauryn Hill, “Ooh la la laaaa, it’s the way that we rock when we’re doing our thing.” That has absolutely nothing to do with this sweet Large Ooh La La Denim Pouch — just a random segue for a darling accessory that I’d love to rock. (loft.com)

2. With a name like “Fantasia,” it’s easy to see why this Ring is pure magic! This ring is gold plated with a brass base and druzy stone, and it’s simply dreamy. Don’t you agree? (katiedeanjewelry.com)

3. These Wide Leg Pants With Buttons scream nautical. Taking the lead from the model, I’d go full-on sailor and pair these hot pants with some horizontal stripes. Just call me Captain Ash-hab. (frontrowshop.com)

4. This V Neck Florals With Bow Jumpsuit makes me want to sip a piña colada and lounge poolside like I’m on holiday in the Tropics. Short and carefree, this playsuit comes in prime time for summer madness. (romwe.com)

5. This Koshka Denim Flare Dress by Mink Pink is making me love the ’90s all over again! This fun ensemble would have been a smash hit at my friends’ recent ’90s-themed party. All that’s missing is a pair of jellies. Da bomb diggety, no doubt! (shopkoshka.com)

1. This Alexis Lace Crop Top looks super regal! But I like the idea of pairing it with some denim shorts for day, or a high-waisted midi skirt for night. So many options! (intermixonline.com)

2. Whether you use this Monki Casja Case as a coin purse or as a tiny clutch, it certainly packs a pleasant pop of color that would add some personality to any drab look. (monki.com)

3. Great news, ladies. The days are longer now that Daylight Saving Time is in full effect, which means summertime will be here before we know it! Yippee skippy! I’ve already started eyeing playsuits, and this Abstract Splash Printed Wrap Front Romper is definitely in the running. (axparisusa.com)

4. And so is this Lenny Playsuit from Verge Girl. The deep-V neckline and bow accent present offers I just can’t refuse! (vergegirl.com)

5. Wear your heart on your sleeve, even if it’s tiny, not unlike the ones found in this scoop-neck Mini Heart Shirred Blouse. (loft.com)

1. Guys, I’m pretty sure a future-seeing Madonna was singing about this Oversized Scarf in Grid Check when she said, “Gonna dress you up in my love … all over your body … from your head down to your toes.” This scarf is guaranteed to keep you warm and stylin’, and so my love of excessively large accessories continues. (asos.com)

2. This Organic Foldover Clutch is large enough to keep all your essentials, only in a portable, on-the-go-friendly container. It’s hand-dyed and “with use, age and adventures, this bag will only get better.” (meusshop.com)

3. Bugs Bunny, pink and polka dots sounds outrageous, but this Lazy Oaf x Looney Tunes Tuxedo Bugs Dress just works. It doesn’t hurt that our favorite cartoon rabbit looks dapper as all get-out, might I add. (lazyoaf.com)

4. This sleek, deep V-neck Back at It Again Navy Blue Romper disguises as a dress to the untrained eye. What you can’t see from the front is that this playsuit it backless. Throw this saucy number on for Valentine’s Day and have him in the palm of your hand. (lulus.com)

5. As a thriftanista, I’m always looking for the rarest of finds. Look no further than this Vintage 1980s Trippy Floral Colorful Abstract Southwestern Medium Knit Sweater from Brooklyn Voyager (where Brooklyn at?!). Like with most authentic vintage pieces, there’s only one available, but you’re in good hands with this online shop, which has ample awesomeness to be discovered. (brooklynvoyager.com)

1. I’ve always felt lucky to be born in July because my birthstone is ruby, the most beautiful gemstone, in my personal opinion. And it appears my luck may have just improved because I discovered these Ruby Red and Swarovski Stud Earrings from the Etsy shop, Petite Delights by Iloniti. These are like the cherry on top of any outfit, and totally remind me of Christmastime. (etsy.com)

2. “Be silly. Be honest. Be kind.” Now that’s my kind of mantra. This darling little Itty Bitty Be Silly Bowl from Aoki Boutique is perfect for holding rings or earrings, or even organizing loose change. This design accent is both functional and quite fun. (aokiboutique.com)

3. Ah, to be wrapped up in this super cozy, heather grey Reverse Herringbone Pullover on a chilly autumn day. This Merino wool sweater from Madewell looks how a warm hug feels. Sign me up! (madewell.com)

4. Looking like a stylish, put-together professional could be as simple as putting on this sleek Cream Pussybow Tweed Jumpsuit. It transitions well from day to night, or “from desk to dinner,” as River Island puts it. (riverisland.com)

5. This stunning Sequins of Events Tribal Bustier from Go Jane already has me dreaming of New Year’s Eve. My ideal sequence of events in this feisty, festive little number? Good music, erratic dancing, the company of loved ones and priceless memories. (gojane.com)

1. Ladies and gents, Lulu Guinness. What a wonder she is. I’m particularly fond of the way the British designer takes the K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple, Silly) concept and runs wild with her Long Sleeve Sweat Pullover in Off White. I’m especially loving the hearts and kisses taking center stage and the striped sleeves tying it all together. (uniqlo.com)

2. This Black Jacquard Collared Fit and Flare Dress just channels a grown-up Wednesday Addams, which I find utterly awesome (snap, snap). (riverisland.com)

3. Houndstooth, how I’ve missed you! What a darling reunion we have with this Motel Amy Backless Playsuit in Houndstooth Black and White. And the cutout back only ups the ante. (motelrocks.com)

4. OK, OK. I’ll admit it. Jackets like this Dark Gray High Neck Single Button Plain Coat from Kisschic kinda make me excited about fall and winter. (kisschic.com)

5. Strut your stuff in these Margo Printed Soft Pants by Sabine. Whether you’re getting all gussied up or keeping it casual, these fun little numbers will elevate your look. (piperlime.com)
