Fancy Things Friday

July 1, 2016

Get into an all-new batch of must-have goods and wares in this week’s edition of Fancy Things Friday:

1. This past week has been sending serious desert vibes, as it’s been a bit of a scorcher. Hence, this lovely Cactus Gold Necklace. It’s straight and to the point and would dazzle popping out from a V-neck tee or a romper. Also, shout out to my new desk cactus, Penelope, the belle of the ball. (wanderlustandco.com)

2. I can’t even with these Vegan Shot in the Dark Sandals by Seychelles. So much to adore! First of all, you know black and white is my jam — always a treat in striped form. Secondly, the slingback and open-toe front bring out the playfulness. These also come in a darling chambray, if you’re having a desire for denim. (freepeople.com)

3. Do a slightly different take on the traditional red, white and blue this Fourth of July with these fun, sporty burgundy Lyocell Shorts. If you’re not sold on this hue, get into the denim version. Options! Major key. (hm.com)

4. Summertime sass never looked as good as it does in this Rust Twist Front Tunic a la River Island. The cut-out detail says, “I’m ready to party!”, and the twist embellishment just chimes in with a “Turn up!” Now this dress is speaking my language. Wear this ensemble boldly with some peep-toe wedges. (riverisland.com)

5. This Floral Fit and Flare DSress is the epitome of ladylike elegance: flirty, demure and dainty. The flowers placed throughout are like a breath of fresh air and the cut-out back adds a welcome element of style and surprise. (pixiemarket.com)

May 13, 2016

We get it. May grey is a very real thing. In an effort to keep your eyes on the sunshiny days that lie ahead, this Fancy Things Friday features some super-cute fun-in-the-sun essentials:

1. These Bali Slides from J.Crew are a Dusty Cypress shade that make me crave a desert romp. Think about it. Palm Springs when it’s 90 degrees out, and you’re lounging poolside with a refreshing drink in your hand. These sandals certainly fit (foot?) the bill for the quintessential summer sandal. (jcrew.com)

2. These Nude Slouch Bags are doubly debonair and functional. I see River Island is hip to my bag-within-a-bag swag, but these purses clearly work well as separates. Plus, the gold tone detailing adds a touch of sophistication. (riverisland.com)

3. Bring your A game to the workplace in this darling Great Gal in the Corner Office Top from (who else?) Modcloth, the foremost purveyor of all things cute and stylish. The pattern is interesting without going overboard, and the slight peplum makes me squeal with delight. (modcloth.com)

4. You gals know mustard is my jam! It’s perfect for every season and has a certain way of making my skin pop. That’s why I’m a huge fan of this Textured Sheath Dress. Dress it up or down. You know the routine! (forever21.com)

5. Doesn’t this boho-chic Ecote Fonda Striped Surplice Romper make you want to frolic? Well, at least that’s how it makes me feel! Whether it’s brunch or the beach, you’ll steal the spotlight in this extra sweet playsuit. (urbanoutfitters.com)

Get into an all-new batch of swoon-inducing goods and wares in this week’s Fancy Things Friday:

1. Front Row Shop was all, “I am woman; hear me roar,” when it concocted this Pink Asymmetric Zip PU Jacket. Edgy and fierce with a feminine touch, because, hello. Pink. It’s the details that do it for me here: the notched lapels and the ribbon zipper pulls. Plus, the asymmetric look is on fleek — just like your auntie’s haircut circa ’89. (frontrowshop.com)

2. These Mountain Post – Peaks Sterling Silver Stud Earrings from TheAngryWeather are giving me serious winter feels, as they’re reminiscent of snow-capped mountains. Chilly willy! The silver lining here is that these silver showstoppers are handmade with love. (etsy.com)

3. They say El Niño is gonna show up and show out this winter. While we wait for the little-big fella to arrive, check out these Riff Raff Rain Boots from Nasty Gal. It’s literally where the rubber meets the road. Wear these fun guys out when the weather outside is frightful. But, hey, splashing in puddles with these would be so delightful! No doubt, they’ll keep you high and dry. (nastygal.com)

4. Remember when dark-skinned Aunt Viv danced for her life that one time in dance class, showing those haters how it’s done? (Still one my favorite moments from Ms. Petty LaBelle herself, Janet Hubert, although her recent readings have made me reconsider which reigns supreme.) Well, you can bring that look to life with this curve-hugging ribbed Little Miss Popular Jumpsuit in Rose. Just be sure to nail it with a statement necklace and a strappy heel, and snap in the face of any shade that comes your way. ‘Cause you cute and you know it. Yaaass, Queeen, yaaaasss! (fashionnova.com)

5. Math was never my strong suit, but this Black Geometric Print Bomber Jacket could make me fall in love with geometry. The black-and-white pattern is eye-popping and the faux leather shoulder patches help bring this stunning jacket home. Doesn’t it just exude power? (riverisland.com)

1. Boxy chambray? Count me all the way in! Motel Rocks, well, rocks for crafting this Leigh Crop Shirt in Pinstripe 70s Wash Denim By Motel. Rock it with a pencil skirt to show what you’re made of. (motelrocks.com)

2. Look glamorous while you party ’round the clock wearing these Black Round Sunglasses. Make these sunshades an essential accessory for the summer. (riverisland.com)

3. Soak up some rays in this way cool Watermelon Swimsuit With Ruffle. This fun swimsuit, with optional straps, is sweet in every way imaginable, and was made in Italy. And now I’ve got a sudden craving for some gelato! (lazzarionline.com)

4. So unashamed to say that this 116 Sprinkle Tank in Red is the bee’s knees. Taken from Romans 1:16 (“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.”), this tank is for the courageous and unashamed, of course. The sprinkles are a pleasant surprise, which make the tank all the more enjoyable, kind of like the cherry on top. (reach.merchline.com)

5. Bring the heat in this desert-chic Cacti Get Your Number Shift Dress by Necessary Clothing. Set the tone for your summer with this unique frock that’s just waiting for a walk on the wild side. Let the adventure begin! (necessaryclothing.com)

1. Why spend a million bucks when you can look like it for a mere £35.00? This Light Pink Pearl Embellished Box Clutch is full-on regal glam, and I’m absolutely here for it. (riverisland.com)

2. These Speckled Delivery Flats are a testament to Modcloth’s versatility. The black-and-white pattern looks fun and very “summertime-y,” reminiscent of “The Flintstones,” in all honesty. And they don’t have that overtly “retro” flair, which kept me on my toes. (modcloth.com)

3. No shame in my game! I’d pair these Motel Sweat Pants in Art School Cream with some pumps and cami and call it a day for the chillest and illest ‘fit ever. (motelrocks.com)

4. Oh no … This isn’t your skort from the 1990s. Rather, this Origami Wrap Tie Skort brings a contemporary elegance to a piece not originally known for sophistication. (topshop.com)

5. My theory is, the bigger the bow, the brighter you glow! Get your shine on with this Sweet Doll Bowknot Lace Shirt, which has two things I adore: bows and lace. This blouse gives me visions of Janelle Monáe, by the way. (chicwish.com)

1. Pump the brakes! Are you as in love with these Guilhermina Posy Cutwork Heels as I am? The attention to detail here is impeccable, with the cutouts and subtle gold accents on the strap. Beautifully made indeed. (anthropologie.com)

2. Peekaboo! I see you, Nasty Gal. Great work with these eccentric Now You See Me Cutout Shades. These would be perfect with a leather jacket and a colorful lip to draw attention. (nastygal.com)

3. These smokin’ hot Brown Animal Print Cigarette Pants have my name written all over them. They’re shiny, versatile and uber chic. (riverisland.com)

4. Thanks to ShopBop, this Adia Kibur Crystal Earring Set is thrice as nice with not one, not two, but three different earrings. Gotta love more bang for your buck and the luxury of multiple choices! (shopbop.com)

5. Channel that schoolgirl-gone-professional vibe with this Angela Babydoll Dress. The optional fabric belt is an added bonus that completes this fun and fancy look. Throw on some pointed flats and you’re all set. (pixiemarket.com)

1. Ladies and gents, Lulu Guinness. What a wonder she is. I’m particularly fond of the way the British designer takes the K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple, Silly) concept and runs wild with her Long Sleeve Sweat Pullover in Off White. I’m especially loving the hearts and kisses taking center stage and the striped sleeves tying it all together. (uniqlo.com)

2. This Black Jacquard Collared Fit and Flare Dress just channels a grown-up Wednesday Addams, which I find utterly awesome (snap, snap). (riverisland.com)

3. Houndstooth, how I’ve missed you! What a darling reunion we have with this Motel Amy Backless Playsuit in Houndstooth Black and White. And the cutout back only ups the ante. (motelrocks.com)

4. OK, OK. I’ll admit it. Jackets like this Dark Gray High Neck Single Button Plain Coat from Kisschic kinda make me excited about fall and winter. (kisschic.com)

5. Strut your stuff in these Margo Printed Soft Pants by Sabine. Whether you’re getting all gussied up or keeping it casual, these fun little numbers will elevate your look. (piperlime.com)

1. I’m late to the party, but LACMA (the Los Angeles County Museum of Art) has collaborated with designer Clare Vivier, among others, for its Wear LACMA initiative. The phrase L’habit ne fait pas le moine on this Limited-Edition T-Shirt translates in French to “the clothing doesn’t make the monk” — basically, “you can’t judge a book by its cover.” Apparently, Vivier was inspired by a finely wrought 18th century French vest from the museum’s Costume and Textile collection. See? You learned something new today. (clarevivier.com)

2. What’s big and round and tortoise-like all over? That would be these Kediralia sunglasses, proper eyewear for the beaches and pools that await the sunny summer days ahead. (callitspring.com)

3. Peek-a-Boo-Hoo! I see you, Sammena Geo Gem Triangle Earrings. And so will the many eyes of passersby whose heads you turn when you have these on. BooHoo’s got plenty more where these spicy numbers came from! (boohoo.com)

4. Floral prints aren’t only for spring. No, no, no. They transition well into summer and are perfect for those still-warm nights, especially when paired with an open-toed heel and a daring lip — like so. I personally can see myself rocking this Black Floral Jumpsuit to a rooftop soiree. (wallisfashion.com)

5. Revel the night away in this bad-ass White Color Block Leather Biker Jacket, you rebel you. (riverisland.com)

1. Now that the days are longer, I’m looking forward to warmer weather. Thankfully, it’s been gloriously sunny in SoCal, and, as a result, I’m dreaming of rocking these cute little Monochrome Zig Zag Shorts when the time is right. (topshop.com)

2. Lord knows I’m on the market for a new wallet. I fully support the cool style afforded by Mango’s Leather Coin Purse with triangular, gold appliques. (mango.com)

3. Refinery29 recently listed this cozy gem as one of its “Not-Too-Wild Animal Print Pieces.” This Zebra Intarsia Pullover Sweater from Barneys New York gives me life on so many levels. Even better, it’s on sale! (barneys.com)

4. I wouldn’t necessarily wear this to the biggest event of my high school career, but this Yellow V Neck Scuba Prom Dress is certainly sweet. I can see myself in it at a garden party or a springtime wedding. Doesn’t it make you smile? (riverisland.com)

5. Kenzo has done it yet again with its Shantung Front-Tie Jacket. I just love how it can be dressed up or down, and the front-tie closure is a pleasant surprise. (openingceremony.us)
