Fancy Things Friday

July 24, 2015

1. This Fancy Things Friday is decidedly and uncharacteristically neutral. This Camel Floppy Hat from Love Culture is a prime example of the versatility offered by a natural shade. (loveculture.com)

2. I would totally take out this Nasty Gal x Nila Anthony Take Out Vegan Leather Bag for a test drive on any given night on the town. Think of how much stuff you could fit inside this clever container! Not to mention, it’s pretty darn cute. Get ready for the endless barrage of “I love your bag! Where’d you get it?” (nastygal.com)

3. I’m all for the boxy and breezy One and the Same Beige Two-Piece Dress, which really is a misnomer because it’s two separate pieces. Semantics. There’s nothing wrong with a little belly peeking out, and the subdued hue leaves plenty of room for improvisation with the accessories. (lulus.com)

4. Channel your inner flower child with this stunning Motel Yulia Shift Dress in White Sunflower Lace. There’s something undeniably mod/1960s about this dress, which will certainly bring out your classic inner beauty. Simplicity is key here, gals. (motelrocks.com)

5. Turn up the heat on your office wear with this Sleeveless D-Ring Wrap Jumpsuit in Grey, and then turn right around and head to happy hour with friends at the end of your workday. Commit fully to the seriously stylish piece by rocking it with a killer pair of heels. (missguidedus.com)

Thrifted Thursday: Neutral Purses from Salvation Army and Retro Row, Long Beach

July 24, 2014

It’s not often that I go thrift shopping for others, but I had birthday gifts to acquire for two very important ladies in my life: my mom and my pal, Zita. Purses were something I knew these women needed and could appreciate. And man was it hard not copping some items for myself! Can you believe I stayed strong and made it out with nary a find for my own closet? Yay self-control!

Momma needs a new bag! No, really, my mother needed a better purse — one with plenty of pockets and compartments to organize all the clutter of her previous handbag. This canvas-colored satchel ($9.99) is kinda briefcase-like, but I couldn’t resist snatching it up. Although I really contemplated keeping it for myself (it’s that fancy), I knew it would be in much better hands with my mom. Good looking out as always, Salvation Army.

You know I really have to love someone to pass up on a perfectly good Liz Claiborne bag ($7). Love you, Mom! I found this muted little number tucked away in a pile of purses at the Assistance League Thrift Shop on Retro Row. This will come in handy when Mom is packing light, perhaps to a lunch meeting.

Zita came to mind when I discovered this woven, tan clutch with gold detail ($2) at the AIDS Assistance Thrift Store, also on Fourth Street. I knew it would be a welcome addition, since weeks prior I let her borrow one of my clutches while out on the town. This spectacular steal is fitting for the current season (it exudes a certain tropical vibe) and can go with just about anything. Dress it up or down, go from day to night — run wild!

Grand total: $18.99
