Fancy Things Friday

September 22, 2017

This Fancy Things Friday is in the spirit of protesting the impending start of autumn. Fall Equinox has decided to rear its head and, frankly, I’m not here for it! Get into my last-bit-of-summer looks:

1. Bonita Applebum, you gotta put these Bonita Drop Earrings on. These dainty yet daring earrings feature fringe and a pop of gold, and will add a little flavor to an outfit in need of some oomph. Lucky for you, if you’re not feeling the Yellow ones pictured, they come in a variety of hues, including Cobalt Blue, Fuchsia, Orange and Blush. Talk about fringe benefits. (baublebar.com)

2. These sophistifunky AVA Gem Slingback Shoes are just what the doctor ordered — a burst of sunshine, a la Vitamin D, with a touch of class, thanks to the gemstones. Try these bad boys in black for a more city chic appeal. (topshop.com)

3. The ’90s called and said, “This Acro Unitard in Abstract Floral by Motel is da bomb diggety!” For reals, there’s so much to love about this whimsical piece. For me, it’s especially the scoop back and pattern. It’s giving me a more feminine Bobby Brown “Every Little Step” unitard. The boys your milkshake brought to the yard will probably be partial to the slight side boob, but this playsuit is all about fun. (motelrocks.com)

4. In the spirit of rebelling against fall, I like where the stylist’s head was at. Pairing this super cozy ASOS Ultimate Chunky Sweater With Slouchy High Neck with denim shorts is the perfect move and just screams, “I do what I want.” It goes without saying that this piece is highly versatile, and — dare I say — will transition nicely into autumn and winter. (asos.com)

5. This sweet but bold Puffed Sleeves Dress is basically everything that a gal desires in a day-to-night-worthy ensemble, and I can’t deal. It’s like a blank canvas on which you can let your personality shine through. The possibilities are endless. Happy styling!

Fancy Things Friday

August 12, 2016

Get into an all-new batch of must-have goods and wares in this week’s edition of Fancy Things Friday:

1. These Tera Stiletto Heels in Red Faux Suede are super sassy. I’m talking Rick James and Teena Marie “Fire and Desire” sassy. The cutouts on these shoes are a hit, and the gold heel adds a pop of added flair. (publicdesire.com)

2. Kudos to Mango for making this Small Knot Bag happen. It’s petite but it packs a punch stylistically with the knot and chain. The nude color makes this bad boy versatile, so while this bag plays the background, feel free to jazz it up with a bold eye or bright lip. Knotty by nature, amirite?! (mango.com)

3. I’m all wrapped up in the subtleties found in this darling Katie Wrap Detail Shift Dress. The asymmetrical hemline is playful, and this Blush piece is a prime candidate for a day-to-night look. For work, I’d rock a dainty charm necklace and D’orsay flat with this dress, then at night, set things off with a statement necklace, cropped moto jacket and a leather bootie. But the world is your oyster. (boohoo.com)

4. Strut your stuff in these vibrant Pixie Mid-Rise Ankle Pants in Robbie Red. The color just screams summertime madness, and the cut is just begging for a funky pair of flats. Leopard prints, stripes, polka dots and cutouts would work well there. Run wild! (oldnavy.com)

5. This Primula Cocoon Cardigan by Moth looks uber-cozy. It’s perfect for a chill night in and is a great layering opportunity. (anthropologie.com)

Fancy Things Friday

June 3, 2016

This Fancy Things Friday contains a fresh batch of swoon-inducing goods and wares. Check them out here:

1. I spy with my little eye something dope as all get-out. That’d be this super-cool D’izak Eyes Large Canvas Pouch, a masterful illustrated piece by artist Izak Zenou. In love with his style as much as I am? You’re in luck because there are plenty other items with Zenou’s stamp here. (shop.people.com)

2. It’s Friday, folks! That means it’s the start of the weekend, so you better carpe the heck outta this diem. You can also commemorate this state of mind any day of the week with this dainty Carpe Diem Bar Bracelet from My Kitsch. Live life to the fullest while rocking this piece in 14k gold and/or sterling silver plated brass. (mykitsch.com)

3. In the words of the late, great Michael Jackson, “It doesn’t matter if you’re black or white.” Thankfully you can have the best of both worlds with this Color Block Cut-Out Midi Sheath Dress from Express. I’m especially here for the front cutouts and a front-slitted reverse hi-lo hem. Mmm hmm! (express.com)

4. You should be on a boat, sipping a tropical bevy while wearing this quaint Mango Ruffled Jumpsuit. I’ll have it no other way. I can’t get enough of the nautical stripes, the ruffled bodice and the V-neck drawstring. Anchors aweigh, y’all! (mango.com)

5. This darling Eyelet and Mesh Shirtdress has got me craving some fun in the sun. The slight cinch waist shows off your girlish figure and the eyelets are eye-catching. All in all a must-have spring-to-summertime dress! (gap.com)

Fancy Things Friday

March 25, 2016

Spring has sprung, y’all! To commemorate the occasion, I present an all-new batch of vernal equinox-inspired goods and wares in this week’s Fancy Things Friday:

1. This vibrant Flap Cross-Body Bag is like sunshine in a bag. The stitch detail adds extra flair, and don’t forget there’s levels to this. The strap is adjustable to whichever length suits you. (mango.com)

2. Hey, Heidi! These stunning Heidi Gem Drop Statement Earrings are elegant and stately. They’ll have you looking and feeling like a million bucks, without breaking the bank. (boohoo.com)

3. Sweet, charming and quaint is how you’ll look rocking this dainty Bib Shift Dress in Retro Lace Ivory by Motel. This dress could work well for Easter Sunday, with some flats or a low heel, of course. Or channel your inner flower child by pairing this with a floral cardigan or headband. (motelrocks.com)

4. Vroom, vroooom! Buckle up for a wild ride with this Isn’t It Grand Prix? Dress. The automobile print makes quite the statement. For some reason, this dress is giving me serious Kentucky Derby vibes, but I also envision this for (you guessed it!) Easter or brunch. Or Easter brunch! Either way, you’ll be a beacon of style and grace. (modcloth.com)

5. Sunshine on my shoulders and this Harlyn Lemon Bustier Romper make me happy! This playsuit is ideal for a romp at the beach or an easy bike ride through the city. (shopkoshka.com)

1. Tuck all your essentials into this simple, sleek Kelsi Dagger Leather Envelope Clutch. If Kelsi were a human, she’d be all business at work and then the type to sip whiskey while dancing and laughing with friends until last call. (lastcall.com)

2. These boots were made for stunting, and that’s just what they’ll do. It doesn’t get any better than these Circus by Sam Edelman Black and White Leather Ankle Boots. The perfect cut, these edgy kicks combine tones and textures (I’m swooning over the black-and-white dots pattern) to make one heck of an anchor for an outfit. Get these while they’re hot, because with all this goodness wrapped into one pair of shoes, they won’t last. (lulus.com)

3. Don’t sleep on the elbow patches! Am I the only one who enjoys dressing like a middle-aged college professor from time to time? Show that you’re intelligent, quirky and fly with this tan Elbow-Patch Cotton Blazer. I’d definitely pair this jacket with some riding boots and a plaid or printed scarf. Or a slim turtleneck if I’m feeling extra proper. (mango.com)

4. That melanin tho! If you got it, flaunt it, right? Shout out to Legendary Rootz for giving us brown-skinned girls something that speaks to why we’re so awesome. Not only is this Melanin Defined Tee an informational tool, it’s a stylish conversation starter. (legendaryrootz.com)

5. The weather outside is frightful. OK, it’s not as bad as the East Coast, but it’s been a little nippy in Cali. And I just want to wrap myself up in this BP. Geometric Blanket Scarf. You know I’m all for warmth and functionality. (nordstrom.com)

1. Show them you mean business with these elegant and ornate Jacquard Cropped Trousers from Zara. These culottes already command a lot of attention, so my plan of attack would be to pair them with a sleek blazer and pointy heel. (zara.com)

2. You can’t see the details up close, but there are dozens of tiny cacti combining their collective forces into one quaint piece. This Cactus Print Waisted Dress is perf for that flora aficionado in your life, by the way. (stories.com)

3. Why, hello! These Matisse Quake Cow Hair Oxfords are rather ostentatious. And that’s why I’m a huge fan! These shoes pack a punch and are just the right amount of quirky to liven up a plain outfit. (revolveclothing.com)

4. So much fun and surprise in such a little package. Looking straight on, this Strap Linen Top from Mango is your run-of-the-mill cropped tank. But, oh no. Pow! The back is striking with its amazing cutout and braided straps. (mango.com)

5. I appreciate the subtle sassiness found in this Cut-Out Buckle Playsuit from Topshop. Again, the cutouts are a game-changer that elevate this look to the moon and back. I see what you did here, Topshop, and I’d like lots more of it, thank you! (topshop.com)

1. I spy with my little eye this wildly eccentric Essentiel Perspex Eye Clutch. The streets will definitely be watching with this clutch in your hands or on your shoulder. And while they’re looking, give them something to talk about by pairing this purse with a fierce outfit. (luisaviaroma.com)

2. Friends! Spring has finally arrived! Not only are these Fine Dining Heels in Watercolor perfectly crafted, they possess the essence of springtime: fresh, bright, vibrant, energizing. These fun numbers deserve more than fine dining, as their name suggests. (modcloth.com)

3. Isn’t she a beaut? The model is cute, but I’m talking about this stunning True Violet Structured Painted Floral Print Maxi Dress With High Low Hem. I could even see this as a wedding dress for an alternative bride. (asos.com)

4. Long live the Dancing Girls emoji! Now my favorite text-messaging symbol can be used to add some flair to any and all of my outfits. Thanks, Valley Cruise for bringing this darling BFF Lapel Pin into my life. May we never forget the time my pal, Zita, and I dressed like these quirky characters for 826LA’s Dance-a-thon. (valleycruisepress.com)

5. I’m feeling the breezy, springtime vibes from this bright yellow Draped Dress. It makes me wanna soak up the sunshine, which has been plentiful, as of late. Yes, Lord! (mango.com)

1. This Suede Flap Clutch has really got a hold on me, and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. There’s something dramatic and elegant about the texture. Elevate your outfit by taking off the detachable wristlet. (mango.com)

2. I’ve done the math and these Geo Print Pointed Flat Pumps are definite keepers. Pair these with a simple shift dress and let these shoes do all the speaking for your style. (dorothyperkins.com)

3. Shimmy, shimmy cocoa pop! This Scarlet Shimmy Dress by Lovers + Friends is as darling as it is delicate. Plus, the cut-out back with a button closure is a sweet secret. (revolveclothing.com)

4. Piperlime’s Lucy Paris Satin Skirt looks like a work of art. It’s as if the designer took paint to this wearable canvas and made a masterpiece. This skirt would be perfect for a day-to-night outing. And yay for the front pockets! (piperlime.com)

5. But let’s not forget that we’re in the middle of winter. Don’t let the break from the cold fool ya. You’re gonna need to bundle up soon, and I call dibs on this ASOS PETITE Cocoon Coat in Textured Wool! The mint color leaves a mark as the perfect blend of comfort, style and function. (asos.com)

1. Hey there, herringbone! This Natalee printed loafer is a versatile fall shoe. But you know me. The bow brings it home. (solesociety.com)

2. Grey can be kind of blah, but not this Braid Textured Sweatshirt from Mango. Far from it, actually. I’m head over heels for this braided number. (mango.com)

3. Way to class it up, by the way. This Champagne Long Sleeve Dress gets major points for the alluring color, the dainty lace fabric, the scalloped hem, and the belt. I basically just described the entire dress. Hey, you can’t help what you love. (oasap.com)

4. Now that’s a combo you don’t see often: grey and floral print. I like your style, Obey Seygrid Crew Grey Floral Print Sweater. (lulus.com)

5. This Leanna Satchel is a bag with great bones, perfect for hauling a bunch of stuff on the inside but carrying an air of sophistication on the outside. (shoplately.com)

1. Now that the days are longer, I’m looking forward to warmer weather. Thankfully, it’s been gloriously sunny in SoCal, and, as a result, I’m dreaming of rocking these cute little Monochrome Zig Zag Shorts when the time is right. (topshop.com)

2. Lord knows I’m on the market for a new wallet. I fully support the cool style afforded by Mango’s Leather Coin Purse with triangular, gold appliques. (mango.com)

3. Refinery29 recently listed this cozy gem as one of its “Not-Too-Wild Animal Print Pieces.” This Zebra Intarsia Pullover Sweater from Barneys New York gives me life on so many levels. Even better, it’s on sale! (barneys.com)

4. I wouldn’t necessarily wear this to the biggest event of my high school career, but this Yellow V Neck Scuba Prom Dress is certainly sweet. I can see myself in it at a garden party or a springtime wedding. Doesn’t it make you smile? (riverisland.com)

5. Kenzo has done it yet again with its Shantung Front-Tie Jacket. I just love how it can be dressed up or down, and the front-tie closure is a pleasant surprise. (openingceremony.us)
