Fancy Things Friday

June 23, 2017

Are you ready to get snatched for the summer? Look no further than this week’s Fancy Things Friday:

1. This Vero Moda Floral Ruffle Cut Out Swimsuit is giving me “La Isla Bonita” meets “California Girls” plus a dash of summer lovin’. There’s so much to love in such a small package: the floral print, the ruffles that give a taste of peplum and the cut-outs. I might even throw on a pair of cut-offs and a pair of bright orange heels and stunt on ’em while out on the town. Say I won’t. (asos.com)

2. If the best things come in small packages, you’ve hit the jackpot with this darling Abbie Envelope Crossbody. At 6″ x 9″ x 1″, this bag is just big enough to carry the essentials. This one’s for all the Minimalist Mandys out there. This bag also comes in Ivory and Blue (a sky-like hue) for those looking for some pizzazz. (anthropologie.com)

3. You’ll never guess what type of journey awaits with this darling Learning to Fly Navy Blue Jumpsuit. I’m into the cinched waist and flowy fabric that leads down to the elastic ankles. This piece shows just the right amount of skin with the adjustable halter back, too. This jumpsuit will have you looking flawless with minimal effort — a dainty gold necklace and an open-toed heel will go a long way in completing the look. (lulus.com)

4. Take a bite out of this juicy Orange Side Split Midi Dress, courtesy of Miss Selfridge. Something about this pop of color commands attention. The side split also helps catch eyes. I’m here for this tangy burst of flavor. Yummerz! (missselfridge.com)

5. H&M is on to something with this polka-dotted Cotton Dress. It’s a prime example of how simplicity is key to creating a classic look. What you can’t tell from this view is that there’s a cut-out section at the back with ties. Hey now! (hm.com)

Outfit of the Night: Jumpsuit, Don’t Jump Ship

June 20, 2016

For this Outfit of the Night, I went tropical chic for my company’s chartered yacht to the Catalina Wine Mixer. Just kidding! It was a good old-fashioned sunset cruise in Marina del Rey with my colleagues to celebrate the end of the school year. See more of this look after the jump!

Fancy Things Friday

May 27, 2016

This Fancy Things Friday is all about welcoming the sunshine with some spring- and summertime essentials:

1. I’m like hey. What’s up? Hello, Akira! How perfect are these Low-Cut Sides Lace-Up Peep Toe Booties? There’s so much to love about these heeled sandals, especially the cutouts that show a little side-foot action and the tassels. They’re pictured here in Rust, but are also available in Black and Taupe. (shopakira.com)

2. I’m definitely here for these Marina Earrings in Frosted Bronze. Call me crazy, but I’ve got a sudden urge for a cream soda, thanks to these clear and frosted bronze crystals. Plus, these little dazzlers can really elevate an outfit. (glamourandglow.com)

3. This boho-chic Bec & Bridge Mandala Mini Dress is the ideal fun-in-the-sun frock. The dress has a plunging halter neckline and a dreamy pattern throughout. What you can’t see from the picture is that this piece is pretty much backless. Whoa, Nelly! At least there aren’t any potential wonky tan lines to cramp your style. (shopbop.com)

4. Brace yourself, ’cause this Stripe Cutout Jumpsuit from Hot & Delicious is exactly that! The wide-leg pants are bold and edgy, but also bring an element of wonder: Is that a dress or a wide-leg jumpsuit? It’s magical. I’m particularly fond of the cutout bodice, which shows off a little back. I mean, a little back never hurt no one. This jumpsuit just commands attention, so don’t forget to bring your A game when it comes to accessorizing! (shoptiques.com)

5. If breakfast is the most important meal of the day, it’s only fitting that your Outfit of the Day pay tribute. This darling Breakfast Dress by Ziztar is quirky and sweet all at the same time, with its eggs and phoenix print throughout and ever-so-subtle ruffles at the bottom. If you do it right, this super-stylish shift dress can last you day to night. I’d start off with some all-white canvas sneakers, like Keds or Chuck Taylors, then step it up by nightfall with a bedazzled bootie or a strappy heel. Versatility is key! (shop.nylon.com)

Get into an all-new batch of spring-inspired goods and wares in this week’s Fancy Things Friday:

1. Cool it now, with this crisp, cobalt blue Mini Fringe Crossbody Bag. The tan and grey versions are fine and well, but something about the blue feels extra special. Take this bag to new heights by removing the strap and wearing it as a clutch. (freepeople.com)

2. The Esi Top is unabashedly Afrocentric and I’m all for it. The pattern provides whimsy and playfulness, while the plunging back is a pleasant surprise. The top is also available in a teal green-and-white pattern that’s extra earthy and equally charming. (kedelcouture.bigcartel.com)

3. Shine on, girl! This Glisten Black and Nude Sequin Rose Jumpsuit just demands attention. The dazzling rose pattern overlay is made up from sequins, and this playsuit is elegant, stylish and versatile. (pinkboutique.co.uk)

4. The Hanalei Collar Necklace is a lovely reminder of the season we’re in. Springtime is upon us, and it lends itself to wonderful pieces, such as this stunning statement necklace featuring ultra-realistic marbled hibiscus blossoms secured by a structured gold collar and black ribbon. There’s a tropical touch that would make this necklace perfect for styling outfits for my upcoming Hawaii trip. (baublebar.com)

5. Peekaboo! I see you. This Faye Cut Out Dress breaks the monotony of the usual little black dress. This piece keeps you on your toes with the sleek cutout. The buttons and billowy sleeves tone down the sass and make for a darling frock. (francescas.com)

Get into an all-new batch of swoon-inducing goods and wares in this week’s Fancy Things Friday:

1. Front Row Shop was all, “I am woman; hear me roar,” when it concocted this Pink Asymmetric Zip PU Jacket. Edgy and fierce with a feminine touch, because, hello. Pink. It’s the details that do it for me here: the notched lapels and the ribbon zipper pulls. Plus, the asymmetric look is on fleek — just like your auntie’s haircut circa ’89. (frontrowshop.com)

2. These Mountain Post – Peaks Sterling Silver Stud Earrings from TheAngryWeather are giving me serious winter feels, as they’re reminiscent of snow-capped mountains. Chilly willy! The silver lining here is that these silver showstoppers are handmade with love. (etsy.com)

3. They say El Niño is gonna show up and show out this winter. While we wait for the little-big fella to arrive, check out these Riff Raff Rain Boots from Nasty Gal. It’s literally where the rubber meets the road. Wear these fun guys out when the weather outside is frightful. But, hey, splashing in puddles with these would be so delightful! No doubt, they’ll keep you high and dry. (nastygal.com)

4. Remember when dark-skinned Aunt Viv danced for her life that one time in dance class, showing those haters how it’s done? (Still one my favorite moments from Ms. Petty LaBelle herself, Janet Hubert, although her recent readings have made me reconsider which reigns supreme.) Well, you can bring that look to life with this curve-hugging ribbed Little Miss Popular Jumpsuit in Rose. Just be sure to nail it with a statement necklace and a strappy heel, and snap in the face of any shade that comes your way. ‘Cause you cute and you know it. Yaaass, Queeen, yaaaasss! (fashionnova.com)

5. Math was never my strong suit, but this Black Geometric Print Bomber Jacket could make me fall in love with geometry. The black-and-white pattern is eye-popping and the faux leather shoulder patches help bring this stunning jacket home. Doesn’t it just exude power? (riverisland.com)

1. Feeling elite and eclectic? These TOMS Yvette Sunglasses should fit the bill. Exclusive to Bloomingdale’s, these vintage-inspired sunnies seek nothing but to make you look good while enjoying great iconically summertime moments. Plus, this black-and-white tortoise pattern is the bee’s knees. (bloomingdales.com)

2. Now that’s my kind of party dress! Way to kick things up several notches with this bold Black Lace Wavy Point Splice Dress, Chicnova. Bonus points for the keyhole back, which adds a welcomed surprise. (chicnova.com)

3. Pree Brulée just found its way onto my radar, and I’m so glad I discovered this darling shop. It doesn’t get any cuter than this bright, airy Parisian Hot Air Balloons Blouse. This top is perfect for that spontaneous weekender you’ve (and by “you’ve,” I mean “I’ve”) been itching to take. (preebrulee.com)

4. What better way to show your love for summertime and/or frozen treats than this super sweet re:named Popsicle Curve Crop Top. And while you’re at it, you might as well play outside till the streetlights come on in this fun top, you big kid, you. (shopbop.com)

5. #Love! This Tompkins Tank Jumpsuit in Hashtag Stripe is playful and stylish. I fully endorse the soft and drapey feel with this unique geometric print inspired by Japanese pen-and-ink drawings. Domo arigato, Madewell, for introducing me to this laidback look. (madewell.com)

1. This Fancy Things Friday is decidedly and uncharacteristically neutral. This Camel Floppy Hat from Love Culture is a prime example of the versatility offered by a natural shade. (loveculture.com)

2. I would totally take out this Nasty Gal x Nila Anthony Take Out Vegan Leather Bag for a test drive on any given night on the town. Think of how much stuff you could fit inside this clever container! Not to mention, it’s pretty darn cute. Get ready for the endless barrage of “I love your bag! Where’d you get it?” (nastygal.com)

3. I’m all for the boxy and breezy One and the Same Beige Two-Piece Dress, which really is a misnomer because it’s two separate pieces. Semantics. There’s nothing wrong with a little belly peeking out, and the subdued hue leaves plenty of room for improvisation with the accessories. (lulus.com)

4. Channel your inner flower child with this stunning Motel Yulia Shift Dress in White Sunflower Lace. There’s something undeniably mod/1960s about this dress, which will certainly bring out your classic inner beauty. Simplicity is key here, gals. (motelrocks.com)

5. Turn up the heat on your office wear with this Sleeveless D-Ring Wrap Jumpsuit in Grey, and then turn right around and head to happy hour with friends at the end of your workday. Commit fully to the seriously stylish piece by rocking it with a killer pair of heels. (missguidedus.com)

1. In the words of the lovely Ms. Lauryn Hill, “Ooh la la laaaa, it’s the way that we rock when we’re doing our thing.” That has absolutely nothing to do with this sweet Large Ooh La La Denim Pouch — just a random segue for a darling accessory that I’d love to rock. (loft.com)

2. With a name like “Fantasia,” it’s easy to see why this Ring is pure magic! This ring is gold plated with a brass base and druzy stone, and it’s simply dreamy. Don’t you agree? (katiedeanjewelry.com)

3. These Wide Leg Pants With Buttons scream nautical. Taking the lead from the model, I’d go full-on sailor and pair these hot pants with some horizontal stripes. Just call me Captain Ash-hab. (frontrowshop.com)

4. This V Neck Florals With Bow Jumpsuit makes me want to sip a piña colada and lounge poolside like I’m on holiday in the Tropics. Short and carefree, this playsuit comes in prime time for summer madness. (romwe.com)

5. This Koshka Denim Flare Dress by Mink Pink is making me love the ’90s all over again! This fun ensemble would have been a smash hit at my friends’ recent ’90s-themed party. All that’s missing is a pair of jellies. Da bomb diggety, no doubt! (shopkoshka.com)

1. Stop the presses! These Paules heels from Aldo make quite the statement with its black-and-white polka dots and pale teal strap. The daring appeal of these strappy sandals would make me want to live dangerously and pair it with something unexpected, like a red or orange sundress. (aldoshoes.com)

2. Meet the talented Janessa Leoné. This Henningsen wool and lambskin hat is an effortless, classic beauty. It’s giving me quintessential film noir dame in the best sense possible. (janessaleone.com)

3. Miss Selfridge fuses naughty (think nautical) and nice with this Petites Stripe Pinny Dress. I predict sunshine, sand and beach umbrellas in this dress’ future. (missselfridge.com)

4. X marks to spot in this extra edgy X-It Through the Jumpsuit. You can’t see it from this image, but this exquisite number features a racer back with cut-outs. (gojane.com)

5. Let’s face it. I’m Too Cool For You and this tee proves it. Of course, you gotta bring it when you make such a brazen statement. You’ll prove them right, whether you go the tomboy route with some high-top Chuck Taylors and camouflage-print shorts or the girly route with a pair of skinny jeans, a loud lip color and bright pump. 1. Friends, meet Mipacha. Handmade in Peru, it’s apparent that its shoes, such as the Cavillaca Alto Llama Aviacion, are each carefully crafted with love. I mean, feast your eyes on the detailed print and leather laces. An added bonus is that every pair sold in the online store comes packaged with a hand-woven bracelet and an optional backpack made from Mipacha’s residual material. (mipacha.us)

2. This Trapeze Embossed Blouse from My BFF Couture has all the frills, and I can’t argue with that. This eccentric top makes quite a statement, with the floral print speaking the loudest to my heart. (karmaloop.com)

3. Topshop’s A-Line Box Pleat Dress is shaping up to be a staple for winter, as this one works with just about any occasion. Not to mention, the grey hue is versatile enough to play with myriad accessories. (topshop.com)

4. Every now and then, I like to check on what the wholesalers are talking about. This time, they made it abundantly clear that this cobalt blue One-piece Skinny Jumpsuit belongs in my closet. (lovelywholesale.com)

5. Is this from The Great Gatsby wardrobe closet? Well, it certainly looks the part, and I’m all for it. This Jazz Age Sweater Dress, inspired from the 1920s, features a pronounced black-and-white chevron jacquard print that’s just screaming for some improvisation with layers, leggings and a killer heel.
