I have a confession to make, friends. I’ve been working on a few things I don’t like about myself, as of late. One of them is the desire to get even when I feel I’ve been wronged. It rears its hideous head at random times, but more often than not it makes a bold appearance on the 405 Freeway. Road rage much? Yes. You cut me off, and you’ve got more of the same coming right back at ya. Tit. For. Tat. Not proud of it — just keeping it one hundo. So when I saw this image, courtesy of LovelyDayFleur‘s Etsy shop, it was right on time. May this Wednesday Word No. 38 remind you to never let the essence of who you are become tainted by the actions of another person or adverse situation. I know, they deserve to get a piece of what they dealt to you. I know, revenge would make you feel better. But what better revenge is there than to show that person that you’re going to keep on shining regardless, and that they’re a non-factor? It reminds me of the concept of killing someone with kindness. Don’t let yourself stoop to an ungodly level because another person decides to be ugly toward you. Not today! Let your sweet fragrance be answer enough.

If you can’t tell by these Wednesday Word posts, I’m a HUGE fan of hand lettering. I just love how each artist’s personality shines through with every pen stroke. This Wednesday Word, courtesy of the amazing Dwellephant, is a wonderful example of the new, dynamic and creative life that words can take on once written. Here, the artist takes a quote from late actor-comedian (and wife of Gene Wilder–who knew?!) Gilda Radner, which reminds us to live in the moment. Things aren’t always handed to you wrapped in a pristine package with a behemoth bow. No, life is full of mistakes and missteps. It’s full of disappointment and discomfort. Life is, essentially, that sweet spot where you color outside of the lines but marvel at the masterpiece that such unrestraint creates. It’s OK that things don’t go according to plan; it’s all about how you handle situations that don’t go your way. Admittedly, I’ve fallen into the trap of feeling like I’ve lost because something took a different turn. However, I’m working on learning the lesson from a perceived failure. I’m telling myself not to be so hard on myself, and am striving to find peace in not having all the answers. I’m working on my outlook, y’all. Can you relate? Let me know in the comments section below!

I recently was asked to make a wish for the unborn daughter of my expectant co-worker at her makeshift baby shower. What immediately came to mind was the times spent with my nephew and how creative and whimsical his thought pattern is. Oh how I wish I’d never lost that carefree mentality because now it’s so hard to get back. In short, my wish was that her little one has a wild imagination and that she never second-guesses the validity of her ideas. This Wednesday Word No. 36, courtesy of hand-lettering guru extraordinaire Maiko Nagao, is a reminder to never stop (day)dreaming. There’s power in getting lost in a thought and finding your way back with a brilliant idea. It’s the best, guys. Also, if you can’t be free to think freely, then you may as well be captive. Unhindered visioning, planning, creating and exploring to me means freedom. Daydreams may seem like a waste to some, but I believe it’s healthy to imagine yourself living at an elevated state. Who knows? Maybe those daydreams will one day become a reality.
