1. Friends, meet Mipacha. Handmade in Peru, it’s apparent that its shoes, such as the Cavillaca Alto Llama Aviacion, are each carefully crafted with love. I mean, feast your eyes on the detailed print and leather laces. An added bonus is that every pair sold in the online store comes packaged with a hand-woven bracelet and an optional backpack made from Mipacha’s residual material. (mipacha.us)

2. This Trapeze Embossed Blouse from My BFF Couture has all the frills, and I can’t argue with that. This eccentric top makes quite a statement, with the floral print speaking the loudest to my heart. (karmaloop.com)

3. Topshop’s A-Line Box Pleat Dress is shaping up to be a staple for winter, as this one works with just about any occasion. Not to mention, the grey hue is versatile enough to play with myriad accessories. (topshop.com)

4. Every now and then, I like to check on what the wholesalers are talking about. This time, they made it abundantly clear that this cobalt blue One-piece Skinny Jumpsuit belongs in my closet. (lovelywholesale.com)

5. Is this from The Great Gatsby wardrobe closet? Well, it certainly looks the part, and I’m all for it. This Jazz Age Sweater Dress, inspired from the 1920s, features a pronounced black-and-white chevron jacquard print that’s just screaming for some improvisation with layers, leggings and a killer heel. Out and About: Antioch Church of Long Beach’s AIM Awards

November 24, 2014

IMG_8688

I got used to interviewing celebrities on red carpets while working at an entertainment magazine, but this time around I was the one walking the crimson pathway. A couple of weeks ago, my church, Antioch Church of Long Beach, presented the inaugural AIM (Antioch Innovative Missions) Awards, honoring those working in ministry at the church and those impacting our community. My guy, Dash, and I got gussied up in our black tie best for the glitzy event and had a wonderful time at the awards show.

1. I have some pretty awesome, immensely talented friends! I’m so proud of them that I have to showcase what they’ve been up to. My pal, Lola Wusu, just released her Movember-inspired line, MiLa. “I discovered the Movember movement and quickly realized that my love for retro fashion statements and philanthropy had met its soul mate,” the designer says. I am quite fond of the Mo Comfy Convertible Dolman Poncho, which looks how a warm hug feels. This right here is making me catch feelings for autumn. (lolawusu.com)

2. Another friend of mine, Rachel Herbst, is making waves with her super cute Pendleton accessories designs. This Pendleton canvas rucksack is currently available at The Rare Bird in Oakland, Calif., but it doesn’t appear to be sold online. I can’t wait to see her work live and in the flesh the next time I’m up in the Bay Area. (therarebird.com)

3. There’s no need to be blue, unless, of course, you’re wearing it. This Madeline Statement Necklace is made of acrylic blue jewels and navy and clear rhinestone pendants, and I need it in my life. (solennrachael.com)

4. Look fabulous while braving the chill with this Fall Into the Holidays Chevron Scarf around your neck. The contrasting pattern and snugly fabric is more than enough to get me talking about the genius of infinity scarfs. Get yours (in navy, as pictured, or burgundy) now before they’re all gone. Also, I was delighted to discover that they have a store in my city: Long Beach (*raises roof*)! I’ll have to pay them a visit. (shopconversationpieces.com)

5. Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Year’s Eve. Any of those festive occasions call for something special, and the Flare Gold Dress certainly fits the bill. Light up any room you walk into with this sassy little number on. (shoptiques.com)

1. I’ve always felt lucky to be born in July because my birthstone is ruby, the most beautiful gemstone, in my personal opinion. And it appears my luck may have just improved because I discovered these Ruby Red and Swarovski Stud Earrings from the Etsy shop, Petite Delights by Iloniti. These are like the cherry on top of any outfit, and totally remind me of Christmastime. (etsy.com)

2. “Be silly. Be honest. Be kind.” Now that’s my kind of mantra. This darling little Itty Bitty Be Silly Bowl from Aoki Boutique is perfect for holding rings or earrings, or even organizing loose change. This design accent is both functional and quite fun. (aokiboutique.com)

3. Ah, to be wrapped up in this super cozy, heather grey Reverse Herringbone Pullover on a chilly autumn day. This Merino wool sweater from Madewell looks how a warm hug feels. Sign me up! (madewell.com)

4. Looking like a stylish, put-together professional could be as simple as putting on this sleek Cream Pussybow Tweed Jumpsuit. It transitions well from day to night, or “from desk to dinner,” as River Island puts it. (riverisland.com)

5. This stunning Sequins of Events Tribal Bustier from Go Jane already has me dreaming of New Year’s Eve. My ideal sequence of events in this feisty, festive little number? Good music, erratic dancing, the company of loved ones and priceless memories. (gojane.com)

Ashley Adores’ Favorite Things: Warby Parker Winter 2014 Collection

November 4, 2014

Oprah’s not the only one who can claim faves! I’m getting in on the fun too by highlighting one pick a week from a clothing and/or accessories brand that I adore, and that gives back to the community. After all, the giving season will be upon us before we know it.

First up is none other than Warby Parker, the purveyor of “meticulously crafted” eyewear that I have long admired for its abundance of stylish frames.

The New York-headquartered brand’s Winter 2014 Collection features some lovely optical frames (looking at you, Talbot), but being that I’m an unabashed California girl, I’m particularly fond of the Laurel sunglasses in Oak Barrel.

First of all, go ‘head, team natural (I always applaud diversity in choice of models)! Second, these Laurel frames are everything that I could ask for in a pair of shades: sleek and fun, with a smidge of sass. Simply put, they’re so “me.” Not to mention, I can think of a hundred ways to style them. Chambray long sleeve? But of course. All black everything? Definitely. A pop of red lipstick and vintage heels? Please and thank you!

I was pretty much sold on the tortoise shell-colored frames (you know it’s hard for me to turn down a nice tortoise shell). That was, of course, until I laid eyes on the two-toned Tea Rose Fade version, which totally reminds me of neapolitan ice cream, for some strange reason. Tough choices here!

Aside from the Laurel shades, I’m also really digging the Reilly sunglasses. With its cool, Sparrow Grey color, it’s the perfect fit for a winter collection.

Browse more of Warby Parker’s Winter 2014 Collection sunwear and eyeglasses styles, and I promise you’ll want to leave with more than one pair. They’re just that perfect.

As always, these frames are a part of Warby Parker’s Buy a Pair, Give a Pair program. Can you believe they’ve distributed 1 million pairs of glasses to people in need? Yet another reason I’m a huge fan of Warby Parker.

1. All that glitters is not gold, but in this case, these heart-shaped earrings are simply golden. The fact that these Chloe Heart Studs by Gorjana have a rich texture and welcomed imperfections places them at the top of my wishlist.(revolveclothing.com)

2.Speaking of texture, this Dorothy Perkins Toffee Brown Large Satchel Bag plays with an assortment of it, from the smooth leathery winged sides, to the crocodile peeking out at the bottom, to the gold buckle tying it all together. (dorothyperkins.com)

3. There’s just something about this deep blue hue that has my heart at the moment. This Short Seamed Jacket With Zip from Zara is straight to the point, and I’m all for the no-nonsense approach to fashion. (zara.com)

4. It’s about time I gave the boot to my all-too-predictable flats, in favor of these Taupe Faux Leather Thigh High Riding Boots. Why not live on the edge with these daringly tall wedges? I can already think of at least five ways to style them, which means I may as well go ahead and add them to my fall repertoire. (cicihot.com)

5. This Blue Textured Pleat Midi Skirt just exudes the studious, lady-like, daydreamer and maven vibe — all at the same time. And this shade of blue is a force to be reckoned with. (glamorous.com)

2. Grey can be kind of blah, but not this Braid Textured Sweatshirt from Mango. Far from it, actually. I’m head over heels for this braided number. (mango.com)

3. Way to class it up, by the way. This Champagne Long Sleeve Dress gets major points for the alluring color, the dainty lace fabric, the scalloped hem, and the belt. I basically just described the entire dress. Hey, you can’t help what you love. (oasap.com)

4. Now that’s a combo you don’t see often: grey and floral print. I like your style, Obey Seygrid Crew Grey Floral Print Sweater. (lulus.com)

5. This Leanna Satchel is a bag with great bones, perfect for hauling a bunch of stuff on the inside but carrying an air of sophistication on the outside. (shoplately.com)

5. From the runways to the walkways, all eyes will be on you when you use this luxurious Madeline Paris Clutch to complement your outfit. If you want to go hands-free, wear it across your body with the optional gold chain. (morninglavender.com)

1. Ladies and gents, Lulu Guinness. What a wonder she is. I’m particularly fond of the way the British designer takes the K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple, Silly) concept and runs wild with her Long Sleeve Sweat Pullover in Off White. I’m especially loving the hearts and kisses taking center stage and the striped sleeves tying it all together. (uniqlo.com)

2. This Black Jacquard Collared Fit and Flare Dress just channels a grown-up Wednesday Addams, which I find utterly awesome (snap, snap). (riverisland.com)

3. Houndstooth, how I’ve missed you! What a darling reunion we have with this Motel Amy Backless Playsuit in Houndstooth Black and White. And the cutout back only ups the ante. (motelrocks.com)

4. OK, OK. I’ll admit it. Jackets like this Dark Gray High Neck Single Button Plain Coat from Kisschic kinda make me excited about fall and winter. (kisschic.com)

5. Strut your stuff in these Margo Printed Soft Pants by Sabine. Whether you’re getting all gussied up or keeping it casual, these fun little numbers will elevate your look. (piperlime.com)

4. New York, London, Tokyo, Los Angeles — the world’s not ready for this other-worldly Two Tone Sweater! (stussy.com)

5. What a good look this New Look Pink Contrast Twist Lock Bag is. Whether worn across the body or as a clutch, this bag will make any outfit complete. (newlook.com)
