Wednesday Word

February 22, 2017

This Wednesday Word No. 89, courtesy of Redbubble, is where my head is after this past three-day weekend. I’m fresh off my first cruise — we went to the Bahamas — and all I can say is I need more travel in my life. The anticipation, the expectation of a new adventure in a new part of the world is exhilarating. Thursday night, I boarded a red eye for Orlando, Florida, and Friday afternoon set sail on a cruise to Nassau and CocoCay with my pal, Zita. I’d been on many boat rides, but this was different. The crazy part about it was we were literally out in the middle of nowhere. This huge, blue, choppy expanse that could chew you up and spit you out — also known as the Atlantic Ocean. To feel so small in this ginormous ocean was humbling. We really did disappear those four days and three nights. And it was quite magical. The goal of the vacation was to relax, soak up the sun and just escape from the day to day (or in Zita’s case, the snowy weather in Boston) — and we did all of the above. As the quote says, “You don’t need magic to disappear. All you need is a destination.” Stay tuned for my Travel Log about my journey!

Wednesday Word

April 20, 2016

I’m so ready to travel. Hawaii later this week, and then the world in the years ahead. It surprises me how few places I’ve actually visited, particularly Hawaii because it’s paradise and you don’t even need a passport! This Wednesday Word No. 64, courtesy of Sneaks & Stilettos, is all about making a commitment to venture out of the norm and let your curiosity lead you. When I look back over my life when I’m in my 90s, I want to chuckle and smile at all the little journeys I went on and all the things I gained that money can’t buy. No doubt, traveling enriches your life. Research shows that travel can actually keep our brains and bodies healthier as we get older. Through travel, you also realize that life is a wonderful gift. It reminds me of the saying, “Fill your life with experiences, not things. Have stories to tell, not stuff to show.” I literally cannot wait for this vacation, the beautiful sights that await in Honolulu and on the North Shore, and, most importantly, creating priceless memories with some of my favorite people in life, ever. I’m ready to take this pledge. Are you?

Out and About: Record Store Day 2014

April 21, 2014

With so many record stores just a hop, skip and a jump from my apartment in Long Beach, I wish I wouldn’t have waited to long to partake in Record Store Day. RSD 2014, held on April 19, was an amazing day full of digging through crates, getting acquainted with new shops and hobnobbing with the greats. OK, it was just one great — Chuck D from pioneering hip-hop duo Public Enemy — but it was nothing short of amazing.

FINGERPRINTS MUSIC: As fate would have it, the BF and I rolled into this always bustling spot and were able to meet THE Chuck D. And I happened to buy the last vinyl copy of It Takes A Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back, which I had autographed by him.

Here is Dash with the famous emcee. It was refreshing to see such a genuine spirit within someone so prominent — an overall great, personable guy. This was a day we’ll never forget!

See more RSD 2014 highlights from my vantage point after the jump.
