Wednesday Word

January 4, 2017

This Wednesday Word No. 86, courtesy of Jenny Highsmith, is all about keeping it one hundred, and that’s what I’m gonna do. I’m not one for New Year’s resolutions, but this — be real not perfect — is a goal that’s at the top of my list for 2017. I’m striving to be more authentic in all aspects of my life, and not succumb to pressures (admittedly, self-imposed pressures, nine times out of 10) to be perfect.

My boyfriend asked me if I was going to do a “Happy New Year” post on this here blog, and I flat out said “nah.” Why not? Because I didn’t want to. It just didn’t feel right. This year (and the months leading up to it) feels a little, what’s the word? Ah, “different.” I want to be more honest with how I’m feeling, instead of putting on airs to make myself look like I have it all figured out. You may have noticed that posting on Ashley Adores was kind of sporadic the past few months of 2016. Why, you may have wondered? Life. That’s all it was. I started a new job with a new schedule and that transition left me drained, mentally and physically. I lost count of how many nights I fell asleep on the couch with all the lights and TV on, and my dog running around begging to be walked. And then the nightmare election happened and I lost hope in humanity. It still doesn’t feel “right.” I’m not sure it ever will (#notmypresident). I wanted to be a voice of light and hope through the vehicle of these Wednesday Words but couldn’t find the right words. Heck, even I didn’t believe the encouraging words that I was drafting. So I decided not to post.

If I learned anything, it’s that I can’t let how I’m feeling stop me from accomplishing the things that I really want out of life. I just have to press on and be truthful about where I am. Honestly, just writing this post has made me feel so much better. You should try it! Need to get something off your chest? Feel free to vent or simply let a sister know what’s on your mind in the comments section below. Happy 2017!

Fancy Things Friday

July 17, 2015

1. This dainty Diamond Necklace was one of many superbly made goods and wares during last weekend’s Renegade Craft Fair in Los Angeles (In fact, all the items on today’s list are from vendors who attended the event.). I envision this charming accessory resting gently atop a V-neck tee. For some reason, it’s giving me a beachy keen vibe, and I’m all for it. (

2. And speaking of beach vibes, take a look-see at this cool-as-a-cucumber Wave Stripe Beach Bag. It’s perfect for loading up all your beach essentials for fun in the sun, or even for those who are California dreaming. (

3. This January Dress from Apricity has so many things a girl could ever hope for: bows, hidden pockets, pleats and a touch of whimsy. Oh, and the best part for me is that this dress can be worn two ways: bow in the front or bow in the back. It’s all about the details for me. (

4. Soiyl’s Huarache Slides in Mahogany would look darling with a patterned sundress, or anything, really. You can look at them and just tell that someone put such care into making them by hand. I love a piece with character. (

5. I’m a fan of options, and this sweet Mazy in Peach V Dress presents multiple. Criss cross the straps or wear them normally. Dress it up or down. Have a field day with this southwestern-patterned dress by Field Day! I know I certainly would. (
